Happy Hour: Fulmer Farewell Edition

  • Looks like the rumors are true: 15-year football coach Phillip Fulmer really is leaving UT. [WKRN]
  • Election Day rumors are running rampant, so be wary of anything you hear (like this one). You can always double-check information on the Election Commission website and contact them with any weird stuff that comes up. [WSMV]
  • A lot of things may change after tomorrow, but we never really considered the gas prices. [WSMV]
  • Memphis is stirring up some trouble out in West Tennessee with an air traffic computer glitch. [WTVF]
  • Police still haven’t found the body of the guy who either fell or jumped off the pedestrian bridge after the Titans game yesterday. [WKRN]

Refresher Course In Nashville Voting [Electoral Dysfunction]

We at Nashvillest wanted to send you off to the polls with some helpful hints to make your Election Day go as smoothly as possible. Unfortunately, we can’t really help you out with the lines.

  • Find out where you vote. Davidson County makes it really simple: Just type in your house number and street name, select your zip code, and it’ll spit out your polling place. And all of your district numbers, which will be helpful for the next step. Also available for Williamson and Rutherford counties. Polls will be open from 7am to 7pm.
  • Get to know your candidates. Project Vote Smart is a great place to start. You can look up individual candidates or just enter your zip code and can sift through a list of races by district. Click on a candidate to get a pretty comprehensive bio including voting records, experience, education, and organizations.
  • Hey, we’ve got new machines! Know how to use them. We were pretty sure they were idiot-proof, but apparently some folks have been having trouble. Luckily, there’s PDF instruction sheet to look over before you go, or even a video demonstration if you don’t do the reading thing. Lord knows we don’t want to end up as the Miami-Dade of 2008.
  • Know your rights. In Tennessee, our employers are required to give us paid time off to vote if we’re working while the polls are open. Bad news is, they only have to do it if you had already let them know by noon today. If you didn’t, be sure to plan ahead, allow yourself a lot of extra time, and hope your boss is lenient. Speaking of rights, remember to leave your Obama thong at home.

Photo Of The Day: November 3, 2008

This shot caught our eye for its great use of lines and symmetry. Thanks to keystervr6 for the submission!

Photo Of The Day will be a recurring feature for Nashvillest as long you keep giving us stuff to post. Don’t worry–we’ll give you props. Just add them to the pool or tag them with “Nashvillest” if you’re feeling lazy.

Bye Bye, Circuit City [Comings & Goings]

Circuit City is going the way of Linens ‘n Things: 155 store closures were announced this morning. While we’re keeping a few of our Circuit City stores in Cool Springs, Madison and Bellevue, say goodbye to the stores at Hickory Hollow and in Spring Hill. Of course, what this means for us is that we can take our business to one of the liquidating stores and get some serious Christmas shopping done. Look for liquidation sales to start Wednesday

Bright & Early: One More Day Edition

Good morning, Nashville. After months and months of nonstop campaigning, I think we can all agree that we’re suffering from election fatigue. We’re trying not to be too bitter about our state not being “battleground” enough for the campaign trail, but at least John McCain is showing us a litte last-minute love. Sen. McCain will be at the Tri-Cities Regional Airport in East TN town of Blountville at 11:45 this morning. Okay, so it’s not much, but we’ll take what we can get.

  • Titans continue streak. In case you missed it somehow, the Titans defeated the Packers this weekend to bring their record to a respectable 8-0. Sunday’s game was bittersweet, though, after a 22-year old fan fell off the pedestrian bridge to his death.
  • Tax dollars for Bible Park. So not only is Lebanon probably getting stuck with the illustrious Bible Park USA, but they’re considering tax incentives that they hope will seal the deal. You know, public money. Needless to say, some folks in Wilson County are none to pleased.
  • Bits & pieces. It’s not just us–our commute times really are getting longer … The new Sounds owners are going to be working really hard to woo us over the next couple of months … The yellow-shirted black-shorted arsonist strikes again … A construction crew accidentally cut some phone lines in Green Hills and some folks still don’t have service.
