Happy Hour: Bees!

  • A giant swarm of bees took over Trail West downtown this morning at 3rd and Broadway, and they’re still trying to figure out how to get rid of them. The photos make it look like something out of a creepy Hitchcock film or something. We’ll be steering clear. [WKRN]
  • We’re just hearing news that Yazoo, ever a Nashvillest favorite, has pretty much outgrown their current brewery on the north side of downtown. They’re looking at moving to a bigger neighborhood like West End or the Gulch, which would require the city to rezone for them. The process is already moving, though, so we’re hopeful. [City Paper]
  • The Predators drama is heating up with the suspension of forward Alexander Radulov, who’s decided he likes playing in Russia better and doesn’t feel like coming back to Nashville. We’re not sure what to think about that. [WTVF]
  • Remember back in August with Sen. Rosalind Kurita beat out her opponent by 19 votes? The Tennessee Democratic Party will finally be deciding what to do about that. [WSMV]

Photo Of The Day: September 2, 2008

Stormy weather seems to give way to some of the best skies, like this sunrise over BNA captured by joesouthards one morning last month.

Photo Of The Day will be a recurring feature for Nashvillest as long you keep giving us stuff to post. Don’t worry- We’ll give you props. Just add them to the pool or tag them with “Nashvillest” if you’re feeling lazy.

Vote For Us In The Best Of Nashville!

If there’s one thing to say about the Nashville Scene’s annual Best Of Nashville Reader’s Poll, it’s that they’re thorough. So thorough, in fact, that option #147 is “Best Local Blog” (wink, wink). So, dear readers, head on over to the Best Of Nashville Reader’s Poll and fill in as many blanks as you can stand before you go crosseyed, but don’t wimp out before you get to #147 (or page 10). While you’re there, take a moment to vote for some of our new friends around town – Fresh Blends, Crema, Ugly Mugs, The Sugar Bar, DrinkHaus and more.

Bright & Early: Tennessee Volunteers Edition

Good morning, Nashville. Gustav made landfall yesterday and it looks like the levees held up for the most part this time. There’s still plenty of help needed along the Gulf Coast and right here in Nashville. Evacuees were being bused into Middle Tennessee all weekend but a lot of their luggage is still MIA, leaving many of them without changes of clothes and prescription medications. Some churches are stepping in to provide transportation to and from the store, but they could still use some help.

  • You go girl. Our hats are off to Janet M. Holder, who was sworn in yesterday as the first female Chief Justice of the Tennessee Supreme Court. She’s one of only about 20 women to hold that position in state supreme courts across the country.
  • Wise choices. The Metro Council decided it could spare an extra $1M for MTA to make sure bus fares don’t have to go up again in the near future. They’ve also finally decided that now might be a good time to start looking at other public transit options.
  • Bits & pieces. The Tennessee Guard are some of the first to the Gulf Coast to help with the cleanup … Speaking of Gustav, we’re probably not going to get any rain out of this one … Hospitals around Nashville are working on shortening the wait time in emergency rooms.
