Happy Hour: Say Cheese

  • If you were driving on I-40 or 440 this morning, you might have noticed one heck of a pile-up. A tractor-trailer overturned and blocked all lanes headed east-bound. Turns out the driver was allegedly drunk and is now facing DUI charges for your morning commute pain. [WSMV]
  • The 30 year-old seafood restaurant on Murfreesboro Road, New Orleans Manor, is finally closing its doors due to the poor economy. [WTVF]
  • Opryland had to be evacuated today after a main gas line ruptured, sending flames more than 20 feet into the air. [WKRN]
  • Despite the $4+ gas prices, not everyone is cutting back on driving. Compared to this time last year, it looks like we’re actually driving more than we used to. [WSMV]

Photo Of The Day: June 7, 2008

We’ve said before that we really enjoy the portraits that show up in our pool, but this one really drew us in. We love the personality and detail captured by mrsh2os, and we love the old-fashioned Nashville flavor.

Photo Of The Day will be a recurring feature for Nashvillest as long you keep giving us stuff to post. Don’t worry- We’ll give you props. Just add them to the pool or tag them with “Nashvillest” if you’re feeling lazy.

Gems From The Nashville Craigslist: Find Out Who Your Friends Are

Folks, all we have to say is this: Choose your friends carefully. Please.

your friend lifted your skirt – m4w (broadway downtown)

hey, you were smiling at me and waving, your friend came out of left field and pulled your skirt up to your neck. i thought the situation was hilarious and you both were unbelievably sexy.

We feel bad for the poor girl. If you ever need new friends, Nashvillest is here.

Bright & Early: Morning Mullets Edition

Good morning, Nashville. This edition of Bright & Early is brought to you by one of the best mullets we’ve ever seen. Anyway, we’ve been watching with mouths agape as the Saga Of The Killer Tomatoes unfolds, and we’re happy to report that it wasn’t us! Tennessee is one of a handful of states growing tomatoes that aren’t laced with salmonella. Unfortunately we’re still going to feel it here, as tomatoes have been pulled from most chain restaurants in the area, including McDonald’s, O’Charley’s, Burger King, and Taco Bell. One more reason to buy local.

  • More budget woes. Tennessee didn’t expect much in the way of tax revenue for the month of May, but total collections are down even lower than they thought. This isn’t good news for the struggling state budget, which was adjusted last month to lay off 2000 state employees. We’re guessing that now would be a bad time to bring up the income tax discussion.
  • When it rains, it pours. After two three four lawsuits and a visit from the feds, the latest in Boots’ trail of disaster comes after the Metro Sports Authority announced yesterday that the Preds could be in default of their lease on the Sommet Center. Officials will decide at Friday’s board meeting.
  • Bits & pieces. Rutherford Co. Schools switch to four-day weeks to save gas … Sounds lose to Oklahoma again … Apple introduces cheaper iPhone and Nashville rejoices … While we’re sweating it out at 90+ degrees, it’s snowing somewhere in Washington.

We Want In: Redneck Boy In The Promised Land

Ben “Cooter” Jones (yes, of the famed and pictured above Cooter’s Place) is in town today, discussing and signing his new book: Redneck Boy In The Promised Land. We’re waiting with bated breath to see what this Dukes of Hazzard actor-turned-congressman-turned-author has to say, especially since he went to high school just miles away from where Nashvillest grew up in Virginia.
