Bright & Early: Tweet Tweet Edition
Good morning, Nashville. Metro Police are continuing to investigate Wednesday night’s shooting at Centennial Park that left one juvenile with a gunshot wound to his knee. The whole thing started when a group of kids gathered near the Parthenon while Movies In The Park was going on and eventually began throwing gang signs. Metro’s Gang Unit is still trying to get to the bottom of it, even checking into whether or not it was related to the Wave Country fiasco on Monday. Interestingly enough, as we mentioned yesterday, the group of kids seemed to be using the Twitter hashtag #MITP to warn about the violence beforehand. Though police didn’t see all the tweets until afterwards, they’re actively investigating those ties.
- CJ2K on deck. In happier Twitter news, you may have missed Titan Chris Johnson launching his rap career on Twitter yesterday, which we feel is one of our favorite things on the entire internet this week. Have a listen!
- Does it get better? Despite employment numbers steadily improving in most parts of the country, it still seems to be getting worse in Tennessee’s largest cities. Gov. Haslam did sign a new bill this week extending unemployment benefits for folks who have been out of work for more than 79 weeks, and the benefits are retroactive for anyone who was previously cut off.
- Bits & pieces. Lance Armstrong will be coming to town to take part in the Harpeth River Ride … The Metro Action Commission is really in need of donations to keep their energy assistance program up and running this summer for folks who can’t afford A/C … Some lady who was drunk and also texting while driving crashed into a utility pole and knocked out power to most of Shelbyville last night.

Chris Johnson Puts His “Act On Deck” With New Rap Single
Somewhere between beers two and three at happy hour tonight, Titans running back Chris Johnson took to the Twitters to unleash his new rap single. We have deduced that it is entitled “Act on Deck,” and it’s surprisingly devoid of autotune (too bad, now that T-Pain’s out of that market). Someone’s taking advantage of all his time off! CJ2K also posted the slowed down version of the song and we have no idea why, but we’re pretty sure it makes the song even better. Check out both versions below (RSS readers, you’ll need to click through).

Bright & Early: Kids These Days Edition
Good morning, Nashville. Like many of you, we were a little concerned when we saw a flurry of tweets last night about some sort of violence going down at Centennial Park. Though we’re still not entirely sure what happened, we do know that a teenager was shot in the knee while police were trying to disperse a crowd during Movies In The Park. Word seemed to spread on Twitter that something was about to happen before it actually did, and Metro Police responded by showing up en masse trying to break up the crowd. One person was arrested with a loaded gun, though they don’t believe he was the one who fired shots and are still investigating the incident. Here’s hoping the rest of the Movies In The Park series is a little less eventful.
- Web entertainment law passed. As of July 1, it’ll be illegal in Tennessee to use a someone else’s credentials to login to online paid subscription services like Netflix or Rhapsody whether you have permission or not. Our state is the first to pass a law like this and lawmakers hope they won’t be the last.
- D’aww. When they weren’t busy breaking up riots at Centennial, Metro Police were rescuing a really cute baby falcon from the corner of 4th and Church. They packed up the tiny bird and kept it in the precinct while they tracked down Walden’s Puddle, which is a wildlife rehabilitation organization, to take care of it. When she’s old enough to survive on her own, she’ll be put through mouse school (we don’t know what this means, but it sounds adorable) and released back into the wild.
- Bits & pieces. One of the founders of Galaxy Star, an alleged gang rehabilitation organization, pleaded guilty to racketeering charges related to allegations that his organization actually provided meeting space for the Bloods and signed off on fake community service hours for members … Wave Country wasted no time coming up with a new plan to beef up security measures after their eventful weekend … If you’ve got a few cases of bottled water lying around, the Nashville Rescue Mission could really use them … Metro would like to remind everyone once again that they’ve reinstated their curfew law for minors.

Bright & Early: Sweating Bullets Edition
Good morning, Nashville. We’re tight on time this morning, so you know the drill:
- Talk about a heat wave! Temperature records are being tied and broken all week. Remember that time it took us all 4 hours to get home from work because it was snowing? [Nashville WX]
- Good thing the pools are opening this week. [WKRN]
- Wave Country, on the other hand, is still trying to figure out how to prevent riots like the one they saw this weekend. [Tennessean]
- No, Vanderbilt is not paying $300 or $3,000 or $10,000 for blue-eyed cicadas. [Tennessean]
- That empty old 12-story high rise at 4th and Union may soon turn into a fancy hotel. [WSMV]
- Hang in there, Bellevue! You’re a few steps closer to having your first wine and liquor store. [WKRN]
- The famous 400-mile yard sale that runs clear across our neighboring state of Kentucky starts tomorrow and runs through Sunday. [WTVF]
- Police are already warning us about Bonnaroo traffic. [WSMV]
