Photos: Musica Shows Off Preds Pride [TGIF]
It’s Preds Playoff Pride Day, and in the best show of Preds Pride ever, a local prankster has decked out Musica in the finest XXXXXL Preds threads around. Anyone want to come clean? The Preds crushed the Anaheim Ducks in Game 1 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals this past Wednesday, and we fully expect them to do the same in tonight’s Game 2. We can only hope that the nudies will stay clothed long enough to welcome the Ducks to good ol’ Trashville for Game 3 on Sunday.
Because we love you, we trekked out in the rain across the roundabout to get a few more photos, which you can see here in slideshow form. We’re soggy and proud. A+ to our anonymous prankster!

Bright & Early: Hoop It Up Edition
Good morning, Nashville. We’re in a hurry this morning, so you know the drill!
- What a nasty Friday, right? Folks in West Tennessee spent a good part of their morning in the basement as the storm system moved into the state. Obviously this means that we’re next, so keep an eye on those weather alerts. [Nashville WX]
- The Nashville Electric Service is catching some flack for a policy change that will forbid unmarried people living at the same address from being on the same bill. They say they’re simply adhering to a federal policy, but some are arguing that it unfairly favors married couples. [WSMV]
- It’s been a long time since we’ve seen a good sinkhole story. This time, it’s in someone’s backyard in Murfreesboro. [WSMV]
- City transportation officials are pretty pleased with the first year ridership for the Music City Circuit, which has seen 200,000 passengers since its inception in April 2010. For the uninitiated, the Circuit bus is a free bus route that serves the immediate downtown area. [City Paper]
- The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has noticed an “alarming” number of child sex trafficking across the state over the past two years. [WSMV]

Happy Hour: On The Horizon
- Local meteorologists are keeping an eye on the storm system slated to move through tomorrow evening. The system could include a “major tornado outbreak,” though the worst of it looks like it’ll happen south of the border. [Nashville WX]
- Tennessee State University is cutting eight majors, all of which produce an average of 2 to 9 graduates every year anyway. [Tennessean]
- Tennessee’s unemployment rate held steady at 9.5% during the month of March. [WTVF]
- Mayor Dean announced his new plan to keep 22,000 acres of land open in Nashville for parks and greenways, including adding 6,000 acres of parkland by 2035. He hopes that this helps us become the greenest city in the Southeast. [WSMV]
- The TVA is giving Tennessee $26 million for energy conservation and reduction projects. Additionally, the TVA will be shutting down 18 older coal plants and improve emissions at the rest of them. [City Paper]

Bright & Early: Duck Blind Edition
Good morning, Nashville. The Preds sailed away to a 4-1 victory over the Anaheim Ducks in last night’s Game 1 of the playoffs, proving that maybe we’ve got a little more than Hee-Haw and Cracker Barrel going for us here in Trashville. Our favorite strapping Finn goalie Pekka Rinne made 27 saves while former Predator Dan Ellis floundered around in the Anaheim net, allowing four goals in 24 shots. Shea Weber and Steve Sullivan each scored a goal and Mike Fisher took care of the rest for the Preds. Game 2 takes place tomorrow night, so yuck it up while you can, Anaheim. We’ve got some duck hunting to do.
- Metro Council rejects election changes. State lawmakers are currently considering a bill that would bump Metro’s election cycle back a year so that it lines up with federal elections, pointing out that it could save taxpayers a lot of money by eliminating the extra elections. Most Metro Council members are vehemently opposed, though, and signed a resolution asking the legislature not to pass it.
- Making good. Both Fisk and Tennessee State universities are trying to get themselves back in good standing with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, which is their main accrediting body. Both of them were placed on warning last year and will be submitting documents this week that hopefully prove they’ve made adequate improvement.
- Bits & pieces. A former TSU student being accused of murdering a soldier in Arkansas confessed to another murder in Nashville in 2006, calling it a Jihad Operation … Sen. Stacey Campfield’s bill to ban dogs from laps while driving failed yesterday … Tennessee’s attorney general says that a proposed bill requiring voters to produce a photo ID at the polls is unconstitutional … Mayor Dean is expected to announce the city’s new open space plan this morning … We’re at a slight risk for severe weather tomorrow afternoon.

Happy Hour: How’s This For Trashy?
- Some columnist out in Anaheim took it upon himself to write an entire article about how trashy we are in “Trashville,” and how the Anaheim Ducks will have no trouble beating our Preds in the playoffs. We’re not even going to dignify this article with a link, but we will point you to the Scene’s retaliatory “Puck A Duck: Why Anaheim Sucks” article because it is glorious. [Nashville Scene]
- The bill allowing wine to be sold in Tennessee grocery stores failed in committee today for the fifth year in a row. Sigh. [City Paper]
- Titans wide receiver Kenny Britt was arrested yesterday after leading police on a short chase after they tried to pull him over, and then trying to walk away all nonchalantly like he was only a passenger. So that should go over well in court. [WKRN]
- Clap clap, Tennessee. 600,000 of us have waited until April to file our federal taxes. [WTVF]
- The Tennessee Comptroller’s office found more than $700,000 missing from various city and county agencies due to small- and large-scale theft by employees. [WPLN]
- Fourteen more people are hopping aboard the lawsuit against the Murfreesboro Islamic Center. [WPLN]
- Want to create the traffic jam of the century? Give away some gas! [Tennessean]

Happy Hour: Let’s Call It A Comeback
- As expected, Opry Mills made their big announcement this morning and they will be reopening in Spring 2012. They’re still tied up in a lawsuit with their insurance company, but lenders have agreed to finance the reopening. Regal, Rainforest Cafe, Dave & Busters and several other tenants will be sticking around and the whole thing is expected to create (or re-create?) 3,000 jobs. [WPLN]
- A shooting happened at Pearl Cohn High School this afternoon leaving one 16-year old girl injured. Fortunately she wasn’t seriously hurt, but the shooters had intended to hit another student and three of the four have been arrested. [WTVF]
- Governor Bill signed the controversial education bill today that makes it more difficult for Tennessee teachers to earn tenure and possible for them to lose it if they aren’t performing up to standard. [Tennessean]
- The Titans’ preseason schedule was released, and it looks like game one will be against the Minnesota Vikings at LP Field. [WKRN]

Bright & Early: Oh The Places They’ll Go Edition
Good morning, Nashville. Mayor Dean, Governor Bill and other officials are expected to make a big announcement about the future of Opry Mills this morning, which has now been closed for almost a year now after getting the brunt of the flooding last May. So far, Bass Pro Shops has been the only retailer to reopen inside the mall and many of the other tenants have fled to Lebanon or Cool Springs. Opry Mills is currently tied up in a lawsuit over insurance money that would cover repairs, and it could be next year before the case is even heard.
- Folks near Percy Priest Lake are trying to convince the city to add another tornado siren in their area because the current sirens aren’t always audible. Currently, Metro has more than 70 tornado sirens scattered throughout Nashville.
- Metro Councilman Jerry Maynard says that Nashville’s black homicides have reached a “crisis” level. In 2008, Tennessee was #5 in the nation for black victims of homicide with Nashville’s rate even higher.
- Bits & pieces. Lawmakers want to slap some ads on the backs of TDOT trucks for revenue … Antioch’s population is growing so quickly that many feel the infrastructure needs to catch up … Up to 2 inches of rain fell on Middle Tennessee last night … Davidson County has 500 open prison beds that they’re looking to rent to outside counties … The weather looks pretty nice for today! … A truck carrying almost 50,000 pounds of kitty litter spilled all over I-440 early this morning and took several hours to clear.

Happy Hour: Great Day For Duck Huntin’
- The Preds will take on the Anaheim Ducks in the Stanley Cup playoffs, and the Tennessean breaks it down for us. [Tennessean]
- Thanks to all the construction, Demonbreun is just one big mess and everyone is pretty much over it. [Tennessean]
- Nissan will be temporarily idling their Tennessee plants because the multiple disasters in Japan interrupted their supply chain. [Nashville Post]
- Former President Bill Clinton and Vice President Al Gore were in town this weekend celebrating the life of Tennessee’s 46th governor Ned McWherter, who passed away last week. [Tennessean]
- Mayor Dean announced that there will be some sort of commemorative flood ceremony on the Shelby Street Pedestrian Bridge on May 2nd, though the details are still a little scarce. [WSMV]

Things We Like: Moovers & Shakers, A Soda Parlor On Wheels
Nashville has been bitten by the food truck bug, and badly. It’s getting to the point where some folks roll their eyes when they hear about yet another food truck hitting the streets, but not us. We’re not going to complain if someone wants to drive delicious food and beverage practically to our doorstep! That said, we did roll our eyes a little when we heard something about two Belmont kids with a Kickstarter campaign. But our rolling eyes were met with no mention of a new CD or dreams of a world tour. Instead, we read that they want to start a mobile soda parlor, and our interest was piqued. And we kept reading. And we fell in love with them and their mission to spread happiness around Nashville in whatever way they can.
Ale Delgado and Hayden Coleman are the two ambitious young entrepreneurs at the helm of Moovers & Shakers, Nashvillest first mobile soda shop. Good, old-fashioned shakes and floats – It’s like an ice cream truck for adults, but way less creepy (and we hope they’ll play better music). Here’s the catch: They’ve already won partial funding for Moovers & Shakers from Belmont, but they need more money to buy their truck, get all the appropriate permits and licenses and get shaking. That’s where the Kickstarter campaign comes in.
If you’ve ever supported a Kickstarter project before, you know the drill. You donate money, and they offer a different incentive for incremental donations. Give Moovers & Shakers $5, get a coupon for a free shake or soda. Give ‘em $25, they’ll name a shake after you. Want to drop the big bucks? For a $500 donation, they’ll cater a 50 person event for you. And there are all sorts of options in between, too. There’s also a built in safety net for donors – If they don’t meet their goal of $5,000 in donations by their self-set deadline of April 24, they don’t get any of the money, so you can feel safe that your money isn’t going to an under-funded project that will fizzle out. Moovers & Shakers has a long way to go in less than two weeks, but if they make their goal, we’ll have a mobile milkshake truck in Nashville by May. Right now they have $1,475 pledged, so help ‘em out by adding your pledge to the campaign. You’ll feel really good about doing your part to bring milkshakes to the streets of Nashville, we promise!
We could tell that Ale and Hayden had a fun, lighthearted outlook on life from the minute we started reading (and we loved it), so we sat down to ask them a few questions. Get to know them and Moovers & Shakers (and find out what would be in a Nashvillest shake) below the jump!
