Happy Hour: Singing The Blues
- Memphis’ famous House of Blues Studio D was shipped to Nashville in pieces yesterday. The studio has been struggling in recent years so they’re hoping that Nashville can breathe some new life into it. Along the side of the truck hung a banner that said “From Memphis With Love,” which is just about the saddest thing we’ve ever heard. [Tennessean]
- US Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano hung out in Nashville today to address a variety of issues ranging from the flood recovery to a new ad campaign to encourage folks to report suspected terrorists. [WSMV]
- Turns out that former President Bill Clinton’s appearance at the McWherter rally next week will actually be free. If you want to go, you can sign up for tickets here. [WTVF]
- A Nashville fire captain was busted for pornographic webcam-chatting while on duty. How did he get caught? Well, he was wearing his uniform on camera and his chat buddy took a screen shot. [WSMV]
- Belmont has taken to handing students some cold, hard cash to hopefully give away. “They will pray about that for a few days, about what to do with the money, and then they’ll just start, and who knows what they’ll do with the money,” author Don Miller told WKRN. ”They’ll invest it somewhere so it has a return in the betterment of people’s lives.” [WKRN]
- Traffic downtown is going to be mighty clogged–as in, with 125,000 extra people–so plan accordingly. [WSMV]

Live On The Green Returns With Band Of Horses, Dr. Dog, Tonic & More

Lightning 100′s Live on the Green is back for year two of free outdoor music in downtown Nashville, and this year’s batch of headliners has us impressed. Tonic, Band of Horses, Dr. Dog, The Wailers and JJ Grey & MOFRO will anchor this year’s six-week run, with many supporting acts still TBA.
Every Thursday from September 9 to October 14, Live on the Green will take over Public Square Park for over four hours of community entertainment. The concerts are FREE, but VIP tickets will be available for purchase soon if you want a premium viewing spot, free food & drink and access to the Lightning Lounge tent. Check out the full lineup here (and below the cut) and grab the free Live on the Green iPhone app for schedules & updates on the go.
What do you think of this year’s Live on the Green lineup? We were on the fence last year, but Live on the Green’s got us this year – hook, line & sinker. You know where we’ll be for the next five Thursday nights!

Regions Free Days At Adventure Science Center [Freebies]
After attending the last Way Late Play Date, we’re pretty much in love with the Adventure Science Center. What’s not to like about zapping germs with a laser gun, playing basketball in wheelchairs and climbing up a giant jungle gym? That’s why we’re (perhaps excessively) excited about September 12, when Regions Free Days returns with a little science experiment – What happens when you mix “free admission” with “Adventure Science Center”?
We’re pretty sure the answer will include the words “packed house,” but that won’t stop us from taking advantage of free admission at the Adventure Science Center on Sunday, September 12 from 12:30-5:30pm. This isn’t one of those wimpy freebies either – Regular admission is $12 for adults and $9 for the kids, and free admission is a rare treat at the science center. Thanks, Regions!
If you’re over 21 and paying for a child-free science experience (plus a little booze) is more your style, tickets for the next Way Late Play Date on October 26 are on sale now. The past two Play Dates have sold out in advance, so secure your spot now, then start planning your moonwalk-friendly Halloween costume.
