Bright & Early: Oh No, Oh My Edition
Good morning, Nashville. We’ve all been enjoying the gorgeous weather in the past few days, especially the explosion of color and foliage that happened seemingly overnight. But it’s not all sunshine and rainbows: Allergy season has arrived with a vengeance (albeit a month late) and now many Tennesseans (this half of your Nashvillest included) are sneezing and sniffling their way through the rest of spring. But hey, we’ll take it any day over the nasty snow and ice. And who knew that Tennessee can actually give people allergies who never had them before?
- Teen sex offenders. A bill moving through the legislature would add teens convicted of serious sex crimes (no, sexting does not count) to the state’s sex offender registry in an effort to better inform parents of people who might be out there targeting children. Not everyone is on board with the bill, however, as some believe that putting young people on the registry will only lead them to commit more crimes.
- A chance to just be Miley. “Moms and dads, if you have the next Miley Cyrus or Zac Efron, the Disney Channel wants to know about it,” says this article. Disney Channel casting calls are making their way through Nashville next weekend at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel, so you know what to do.
- Bits & pieces. Experts say that climate change will cause a significant increase in poison ivy, pesty bugs like fire ants, and kudzu in Tennessee … What is this we hear about an “other Music City” in Branson, MO? And synergy? Not buying it … Preds playoffs tickets are on sale whether they actually get into the playoffs or not … The mayor of Hendersonville is actually telling his police department to chill out and stop writing so many tickets.

Bright & (Not So) Early: Fooling Around Edition
Good morning, Nashville. Because we just love you guys so much here at Nashvillest, we’re going to continue our annual tradition of being the one place on the internet that isn’t foolin’ around on this fine first day of April (and it is fine, isn’t it?) (and clearly, some of our friends don’t love you as much as we do). At any rate, in the strangest instance of non-foolery, we have learned that Metro is finally hopping onto the social networking bandwagon and now has a Facebook fan page. But dear City Paper, we never want to read the words “saucy spring break pictures of Mayor Karl Dean” ever again.
- Crickets. You guys. Crickets. The students at Ravenwood High School in Brentwood had their April Fools Day fun a day early–by letting thousands of crickets out into the hallways of the school at approximately 6am yesterday morning.
- Free MBAs for vets. Lipscomb University is offering free tuition, books and fees to any military veterans seeking an MBA who are eligible through the Yellow Ribbon program.
- Bits & pieces. Watch out for that H1N1! It isn’t over yet … A creeper in Cool Springs flashed a jogger on Cool Springs Blvd. today … Economists are predicting that Nashville will bounce back from the recession just fine … This makes us feel safe, right?
