Bright & Early: Music To Our Ears Edition
Good morning, Nashville. As much as we joke around about Bluepocalypse and CMApocalypse and all the other -pocalypses that involve hundreds of thousands of tourists flooding downtown Nashville, we really do appreciate it. Folks who visited over the weekend for the SEC festivities pumped an estimated $10 million into our economy and also had some awfully nice things to say about our town. According to one blessed tourist: “We’ve been to Atlanta, New Orleans and Nashville for the SEC Tournament. This is absolutely the best venue here.” You hear that, Atlanta? We’re coming for you.
- Dead voters purged. Tennessee decided it was about time to purge the dead folks from the state’s election rolls… all 10,000 of them. This was apparently a result of an election in Memphis where people tried casting votes on behalf of the deceased. Which happened 5 years ago.
- Shenanigans? Supporters of Nashville General Hospital, which provides medical care for the uninsured and underinsured in Nashville, are accusing the state of withholding almost $20 million in federal funding from the hospital.
- Bits & pieces. Nashville is currently renovating its only mountain bike trail … Today’s weather can be summarized by the phrase “clouds and occasional drizzle.” Booooo … New statistics are showing that 120,000 Tennesseans suffer from Alzheimer’s Disease … The Haiti benefit at the Farmer’s Market yesterday organized by a local chef raised $10,000 … Don’t forget to fill out your census forms when they appear in your mailboxes!
