BEEP It Downtown (Decoding The Downtown Parking Mystery)

As if parking downtown wasn’t tight enough already, a giant chunk of downtown, conveniently located right behind the Bridgestone Arena, has been closed off for the new Music City Center construction through April 2010. And there’s that whole paying for Saturday parking meters thing now, too. What’s a downtown-event-goer to do?

BEEP. BEEP stands for Best Ever Event Parking, and while mildly cheesy, we can see this being a lifesaver for the next few months. Beginning tonight for the Muse concert and continuing through May 31, Lot R at LP Field will be open for FREE parking with an optional $3 round-trip shuttle service during every Bridgestone Arena event. Shuttles will run every 10 minutes from Lot R to the corner of 4th & Demonbreun. Parking at LP Field will open 2 hours prior to the scheduled Bridgestone Arena event, and close at 2am.

Parking at LP Field never closes. There is always and has always been free parking on the streets all around LP Field. We use them all the time. This is just opening up one of the larger parking lots and running a shuttle. Honestly the free walk across the pedestrian bridge with the amazing view has always been our preferred method anyway :-)

Uh, why am I dumb and never thought of this? I used BEEP for the first time last night and it was pretty great. Took the shuttle to downtown, but walked on the way back. It was quite nice.
