Happy Hour: Look For The Warning Signs

  • All the water main breaks (a total of 60 so far) finally got to Metro Water Services, and this morning they announced that they’ll be replacing more than half of the city’s water infrastructure. [WKRN]
  • The demand for certain GM cars has seemingly risen and the automotive giant is now considering reopening a few plants to keep up–including Spring Hill. The Spring Hill plant idled indefinitely the day before Thanksgiving and discontinued around 3,000 jobs. [Tennessean]
  • Last week, the TVA region used more energy than in any other 7-day period in recorded history. Presumably, everyone was just cranking up the heat. [WTVF]
  • Which leads us to this terrifying article about how we’re possibly entering a mini ice age. Do-not-like! [DailyMail]
  • Somewhere out there, 10 Nashville drivers exist who owe a collective $118,638 in unpaid traffic citations. [WSMV]

Remember MLK With Free Frist Center Day [Freebies]

In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr., the Frist Center is offering free admission on Monday, January 18 (MLK Day). For those of you lucky enough to have the day off work, it’s a great opportunity to check out the Georgia O’Keeffe exhibit before it closes on January 31. And you might even have the good fortune to catch one of your Nashvillest editors, grandmother in tow, taking advantage of the free admission while you’re there!

Bright & Early: Water Water Everywhere Edition

Good morning, Nashville. We thought that we had put the whole water main break fiasco behind us last week, but then five more of them broke on Lower Broad over the weekend and flooded our main drag. Most businesses along Broadway from 4th Ave. to the riverfront were left without water for the weekend and the street was covered in ice. The fifth line broke yesterday and crews are still working on it as of this morning and Lower Broad is still closed. Officials are also warning us that thawing temperatures over the next few days could actually lead to more problems.
