Good morning, Nashville. Nothing says “Christmas” like getting behind the wheel drunk and taking out nearly an entire lot of Christmas trees. Overnight, a car plowed through one of the lots on White Bridge Road, ruining 38 trees and also driving through a tent full of heaters and other supplies and causing about $5,000 worth of damage. An empty bottle of alcohol was found on the scene and tire marks indicate that the car was towed away, but the driver remains a mystery. If you saw anything, Metro would love to speak with you.
- WIC clinic controversy. After a lot of controversy, Metro has abandoned its proposal to put a WIC clinic inside of the Hickory Hollow Mall. The community meeting in which it was discussed was described as “spirited” which is probably newspaper-code for “heated.”
- Big news for Nashville filmmakers. As Nashville’s film community continues to grow, so does the need for more industry connections (you know, so things other than Hannah Montana movies can see the light of day). That’s why the group Film Nashville is bringing in representatives from some of the top motion picture companies for a three-day conference in April called Film-Com.
- Bits & pieces. Thanks to El Niño, there’s a chance we could end up with a white Christmas, but then again this is Nashville … ‘Guns In Bars’ is getting a makeover … MTA might be the only entity we know with a surplus right now … The state discovered 5,600 business tax accounts that are currently unpaid … Eric Crafton’s bill to save the Fairgrounds was deferred.
