Happy Hour: Mea Culpa
- Titans owner Bud Adams wasted no time getting his apology out there after a video of him flipping off the Buffalo Bills with both hands at Sunday’s game surfaced on the internet and immediately went viral. Unfortunately this didn’t fend off the $250,000 fine. [WTVF]
- Former Councilwoman Pam Murray, who was ousted by District 5 voters with a margin of only two votes, may take legal action to challenge the election results. [Tennessean]
- An MTSU professor was sentenced to 12 years months and one day in jail after being found guilty of a multimillion-dollar mortgage fraud. [WSMV]
- TDOT estimates that Highway 64 in East Tennessee will have to remain closed for two months while they clean up that huge rockslide that someone caught on video last week. [WSMV]
- Careful on the way home tonight! Rush hour could get a little messy. [Nashville WX]
- Sheriff Daron Hall made the choice to cancel his scheduled appearance before a group in DC that was declared a hate group by Southern Poverty Law Center. This is actually the second time he’s had to do this. [City Paper]

Bright & Early: Fly Away Home Edition
Good morning, Nashville. We can’t believe that it’s Monday again and we’re looking at a third straight Titans win. But do you know what else we are looking at? Oh, just this video of 86-year old Titans owner Bud Adams flipping not one, not two, but about three billion birds at the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. In this world of cell phone cameras, it was on Youtube within minutes and now the league is looking into the incident with a possible fine attached.
- Oak Ridge wins again. If you asked the average person where they thought the world’s fastest supercomputer was housed, they probably wouldn’t guess Tennessee. However, Oak Ridge is now home to a computer that can apparently do 1.75 petaflops or something (whatever that means) making it the fastest in the world.
- Female DUIs on the rise. According to some national studies, the number of women charged with DUIs has increased 30% in the last ten years. WKRN talks to some Metro Police officers to get their take on the situation.
- Bits & pieces. News flash: People are not excited about paying for parking meters on Saturdays … In case you missed Jay-Z and are as sad about it as we are, here are some pictures … Nashville’s first winery opens today in Belle Meade.

Happy Hour: Weekend Is Nigh
- Remember, westbound I-440 will be closed again this weekend! Closures begin at 4am tomorrow and run through 5am Sunday morning. And then you have the whole Titans traffic snarl to deal with for the game on Sunday, which they will win. [WTVF]
- Provisional ballots were tallied in the District 5 recall election and Jamie Hollin won by two votes. Two! Candidates have five days to file for a recount. [City Paper]
- A state trooper accidentally forwarded a racist email out to nearly 800 state employees when he was, you know, simply trying to send it to himself so he could print it out and maybe hang it in his cubicle or something. The mistake will cost him two weeks’ suspension without pay and a few hours spent in diversity training. [WZTV]
- An Elizabethton woman was picked up on drug possession and a DUI when she kept trying to shove a $20 bill at a police officer because she thought the officer was a Sonic carhop. Easy mistake, right? [WZTV]
- Jay-Z tonight! [WSMV]
- The Metro Parks & Rec department is only laying off five people instead of 55. [Tennessean]

Bright & Early: Every Vote Counts Edition
Good morning, Nashville. The District 5 recall election between Metro Councilwoman Pam Murray and rabble-rousing challenger Jamie Hollins was a little too close for comfort last night with the current tally at 541-538 in favor of Hollins. At least three provisional ballots still haven’t been counted, which means the race could tip in either direction. Hollins, a 35-year old lawyer, has spent the last few months diligently building support for an effort to overthrow Murray on the grounds that she spends most of her time in Detroit and doesn’t fulfill her duties as a representative of District 5.
- Democracy wins. Always the champion of pressing social issues, the City of Franklin is declarking war on chain-link fences from marring their landscape. Existing fences would be allowed to stay, but as for any new ones, Franklin is putting its foot down.
- Yep, GM still closing. In an effort to help out the 2,000 folks who are scheduled to be laid off from the Spring Hill GM plant later this month, GM has offered 840 jobs in Lansing, Michigan. The plant will be officially closing its doors the day before Thanksgiving.
- Bits & pieces. After a couple of weeks off, westbound I-440 will be closing again this weekend … The Parks & Rec department will be announcing the final number of layoffs they’ll be making as a result of their budget shortage … ABC is holding a casting call at Buffalo Billiards tomorrow for their new weight loss show.

Happy Hour: What’s That Smell?
- A gas leak at Gra-Mar Middle School in North Nashville sent several students and teachers to the hospitals, though none had serious injuries. The school was evacuated twice throughout the day. [WTVF]
- In case we had forgotten which state we live in: An East Tennessee was found asleep in a ditch with some moonshine, hand-rolled joints, and a rifle. The moonshine jar was stuffed in the bib of his overalls. [Tennessean]
- Titans wide receiver Justin Gage, who made that incredible 33-yard catch last weekend, apparently fractured some bones in his back when he hit the ground. The injury shouldn’t keep him out for the rest of the season, though. [City Paper]
- The new Music City Center is expected to carry a $585 million price tag, which is still $150 million less than they originally thought. [Tennessean]
- Another electric bill decrease from the TVA, hooray! [WZTV]
- Tim McGraw is screening his new film in Green Hills tonight, which is code for “steer clear of Green Hills unless you have a thing for traffic jams.” [WZTV]

Happy Hour: This One’s For Our Vets
- In case you missed the Veteran’s Day festivities today, WSMV has a great slideshow of the parade. [WSMV]
- We may joke around about CMApocalypse, but it’s sure giving our city a much-needed economic boost this week. [Tennesssean]
- A Clarksville lawyer is taking a crack at getting red-light cameras removed by claiming that they actually violate state law. [WSMV]
- Gone are the days of getting your lunch money stolen as a kid. Metro Schools will soon be going to a PIN system where kids type their assigned number into a pad to tap into lunch funds. [WTVF]
- Metro Schools are also stepping up gang awareness training for teachers. [WSMV]

Bright & Early: Big Shoes To Fill Edition
Good morning, Nashville. We’re starting to think that we might actually get all those fancy riverfront renovations we’ve been hearing about for years. As Mayor Dean promised in his State of the Metro address over the summer, a firm has been hired to design $30 million worth of projects on both sides of the river. The projects are expected to be started by the end of the month, including that cryptic “adventure play park.”
- On the mend. The state has released its first quarter revenue collections and it turns out we were $88 million short of initial projections. But to put it into perspective, at this time last year we were $200 million short.
- We love our veterans. A big Nashvillest ‘thank you’ goes out to all our veterans today. Celebrate and remember by checking out some of the parades going on in the midstate.
- Bits & pieces. News Channel 5 is still harping on country music ticket conspiracies, this time zeroing in on Taylor Swift … Steve McNair’s restaurant, Gridiron9, is finally being sold after collecting dust for a few months … Big Kenny, Dierks Bentley, Kid Rock and others are coming together to fight mountaintop removal … Another rockslide closed a major road in Polk County … The body found burning in a dumpster near MTSU was ruled a suicide.
