Bright & Early: Where We Left Off Edition
Good morning, Nashville. Thanks to the NAACP’s lawsuit against Metro Schools over the controversial rezoning measure, about half of the schools in the system have been found to be missing the textbooks they need to start the school year. School officials say that the shortage is so widespread because it’s nothing out of the norm. Members of the lawsuit say that it only seems to be affecting poorer schools with greater numbers of racial minorities.
- Off to prison. William “Boots” Del Biaggio, who used to own a little over a quarter of the Preds franchise, was finally sentenced to 8 years in jail and ordered to pay back the nearly $70 million that he defrauded lenders.
- Drama! The owners of the Redneck Yacht Club are suing the writers of Redneck Yacht Club, a song performed by Craig Morgan. Not that this is significant in any way, but sometimes the redneck drama is too good to pass up.
- Bits & pieces. East Nashvillians are still trying to fire their councilwoman … A property management company is laying claim on at least part of Steve McNair’s estate, saying he owes money on another condo near Centennial Park … 97% of all flu cases diagnosed in Tennessee so far this season have been H1N1 … Metro is now assisting families who can’t afford the burial costs of their relatives.
