Happy Hour: Here A Duck, There A Duck

  • We’re less than a week out from Nashville’s Twestival Local and we’re only eight ducks away from meeting our goal of 100 duck adoptions this week! If you can help us out (and our friends at Boys & Girls Clubs of Middle TN!) and want to join our team, check out Twestival Nashville for some important instructions. Go team!
  • Franklin residents were finally able complain out loud about that awful-smelling manufacturing plant that keeps smelling up their town. Over 100 people came out to the hearing last night. [Tennessean]
  • The Mayor of Clarksville forwarded an unfortunate email around to the city council and other city officials asking them to protest a “new” Muslim stamp that the email claims was commissioned by President Obama. Trouble is, the stamp has actually been around since 2001 and simply commemorates some important Muslim holy days. When pressed, he said he didn’t see anything wrong with it. [Tennessean]
  • WPLN, Nashville’s NPR station, unveiled its new plan to drop the classical music programming during the day in favor of more talk radio and news content. Great news for the talk radio fans, sad day for the classical music lovers. [WSMV]
  • Mayor Dean has finally nominated a for-real convention center authority to oversee the project as it moves forward and hopefully not let contracts get quite as far out of control. [WPLN]

Photo Of The Day: September 4, 2009 [Feel Good Friday]

We can’t wait to get out to the Nashville Zoo to see the adorable and rare clouded leopard cubs the debuted this week. Thanks to Christian Sperka for sending this one our way. TGIF!

Photo Of The Day will be a recurring feature for Nashvillest as long you keep giving us stuff to post. Don’t worry–we’ll give you props. Just add them to the pool or tag them with “Nashvillest” if you’re feeling lazy.

Have Some Fun This Labor Day Weekend With Free Bowling [Freebies]

2009WR

Tomorrow, Bowl.com will attempt to set a new world record for most games bowled in a single day. What does this mean for us? Free bowling (and a participation certificate), that’s what! Bowling centers all over the country are participating in National Bowling Day, so visit Bowl.com to grab your voucher for a free game of bowling, then velcro up those shoes and hit the lanes. We found a good handful of participating bowling alleys in the Nashville area, but click here to find the closest one to you. Hat tip to Faithful Provisions for the info.

Bright & Early: Keeping Our Options Open Edition

Good morning, Nashville. Yesterday, we heard news from Sumner County that the school system would be giving parents the option of opting their children out of President Obama’s address to school kids next week. Williamson and Wilson counties have now decided not to show the speech in any of their schools, citing the importance of maximizing instructional time. Metro Schools will make a decision today and will most likely leave it up to each school.
