Good morning, Nashville. The sun is out, it might not even reach 90 degrees today, and it sounds like a perfect day for… another tea party? You may recall the one that drew a few thousand people back in April, and this one will probably attract some of the same folks. The place is Legislative Plaza and the ETA is today around noon. According to the Facebook event page, only 14 people are confirmed, and Jason Mumpower is on the “Declined” list. But hey, Phil Valentine will be there probably yelling some things through a megaphone, so it’s sure to be interesting.
- Maury County needs help. In anticipation of the thousands of folks who will soon be without jobs in Spring Hill, Maury County is looking to the federal government for some emergency funds to help a local career center that will probably be slammed once the GM plant idles. Officials anticipate that Maury’s unemployment rate could reach over 20%.
- BREAKING: Girls love group work. Harpeth Hall, an all-girls college prep school in Green Hills, is collaborating with schools in other states to take the all-girls curriculum online. The philosophy behind it is that girls learn differently from boys in that they all love group work and such. Interesting!
- Bits & pieces. Check your beef for E. Coli … Gas prices should be going down this week just in time for the 3-day weekend. Road trip? … Now that the guns in parks bill has passed, cities are rushing to make their own laws banning it before the law kicks in on September 1 … A 15-year old boy drowned in Percy Priest over the weekend, raising the question of whether life guards are necessary for the area.
