Bright & Early: It’s Been A Week Edition
Good morning, Nashville. We’re not gonna lie: All the breaking news in the past 24 hours has us pretty worn out. As of this morning, Sgt. Mark Chesnut–the 44-year old Metro officer who was injured in yesterday’s shooting on I-40–is headed back into surgery at Vanderbilt for some pretty severe internal injuries. Despite wearing body armor at the time of the shooting, Sgt. Chesnut spent the night on full life support. Two suspects are in custody including an escaped Mississippi inmate. Our hearts go out to his friends, family, and the rest of the Metro police force this morning.
- That sounds gross. Among the many reasons that Kington’s ash pond spilled: A “bed of slime” was hanging out under all the ash, and apparently if you don’t drain that stuff, it becomes too heavy for the walls to handle.
- Um, what? “Authorities in Shelbyville say a couple got into a fight using orange puffy snacks. The Bedford County Sheriff’s Department said 40-year-old James Earl Taylor and 44-year-old Mary S. Childers argued at a home Sunday using Cheetos.“
- Bits & pieces. There’s currently a house boat sinking in the Cumberland near the Jefferson Street bridge downtown … The Metro Planning Commission voted down the May Town Center (or “second downtown”) proposal last night … Martin’s BBQ Joint is getting a little too big for its building … We may see some more severe weather today.
