Good morning, Nashville. We’ve been watching in amazement for nearly 24 hours as the folks at TDOT try to clear up an unusual problem on I-40: A flatbed truck carrying (we think) a mobile home got wedged underneath the Elm Hill Pike overpass yesterday afternoon at 1:40pm. Originally it was set to be cleared out by 5pm, then later at 10pm, then this morning at 10am, and now we’re hearing that TDOT will be closing down all lanes of westbound I-40 at that spot to remove the house piece by piece which could take as long as 4 hours. Really?
- Power outages. Kentucky generously sent some storms our way that ended up knocking out power to more than 16,000 NES customers last night. As of this morning, only about 1,000 of us are still without power. More storms are possible today.
- A low blow. Just a few days after the great news that Smyrna is getting Nissan’s electric car, we’ve learned that Nashville is on the shortlist for the new Hummer headquarters. This makes us want to cry.
- Headline of the day: Beavers to run for Wilson County mayor.
- Bits & pieces. Steve McNair’s new restaurant is open and it has lots of semi-healthy-ish and cheap food … A 22-year old reading a text message careened into a stopped police car, injuring both herself and the officer … Franklin wants to make a name for itself by going green, starting with an electric patrol car … From the Department of Only In East Nashville, police shut down a strip club operating out of a house on Oneida Ave … Councilwoman Megan Barry may introduce an ordinance for non-discrimination on the bases of sexual orientation in July.
A year ago on Nashvillest: We welcomed Fat Tire into our hearts and our state, greeted our new friends at the brand new Ugly Mugs in East Nashville, and wondered what on earth Eric Crafton was thinking.
