Good morning, Nashville. Hopefully none of you had any life-threatening emergencies yesterday morning because the city’s 911 call center accidentally went offline. Supposedly, AT&T was simply following their work order when they cut every single phone line to the 911 center, but the result rendered emergency services unreachable for about 30 minutes. Though the dispatchers said they would try to return all the missed calls, we’re guessing it probably won’t help. No one has owned up to the mistake 24 hours later and AT&T still maintains that they were just doing their job.
- Can you hear us now? After much debate, Verizon is going forward with the construction of a giant cell phone tower in Nolensville. While this is great news for Verizon users, the folks in Nolensville are concerned about it being ugly and giving them all cancer. To combat these two things, Verizon will be planting some trees around it and building a big cancer-proof fence.
- Bowled over. The 2009 Music City Bowl is becoming kind of a big deal with the announcement of its first ever prime time kickoff. Yes, we realize it doesn’t happen until December, but it means that more people than ever will have their eyes on Nashville that night.
- Bits & pieces. The funerals for Kori and Olivia Bryant are scheduled for today … Jamie Foxx apologized to Miley Cyrus for telling her to grow up and make a sex tape … A pastor tells his harrowing story about surviving the tornado by clinging to a tree … A student at Metro Schools suffered third degree burns at school and no one ever called 911. Or maybe they did, but 911 was down.
