Bright & Early: The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year Edition
Good morning, Nashville. We hope you’ve enjoyed this wonderful week of spring and (mostly) sunshine, because by the looks of the weather report this morning, we’re headed straight into Tornado Season. A storm system that produced tornadoes and tennis ball-sized hail in Texas and Mississippi this week will be making its way through Middle Tennessee today and tomorrow. So get your basements ready, find some cover for your car,s and hang onto your hats–this one could be a doozy.
- Runoff election scheduled. The District 18 election yesterday was kind of a bust, with none of the 4 candidates getting the required 50% of the votes. The two top contenders, Kristine LaLonde and Stephanie Dodson, will square off again on April 30th for the final decision.
- GM fails again. More than 300 employees at the Spring Hill GM plant (the one that keeps shutting down every few weeks to save some cash) accepted voluntary buyout offers extended by the company to reduce the overall workforce.
- Bits & pieces. Yes, the City Paper really did just cite Wikipedia … Some of Nashville’s public housing will be getting renovated thanks to the stimulus money … The Sommet Center has sold over 8,000 tickets for next week’s Ultimate Fighting Championship … The bill that would make milk our official state beverage has passed in both the House and Senate. It’s now up to Governor Phil to put a stop to this nonsense.
