Happy Hour: Okay, We’re Seriously Out Of Jobs

  • The tally is in for February and we’re now  the proud owners of a 9.1% unemployment rate. And aside from the fact that it’s the highest rate on the books for Tennessee and we had a net loss of 7,800 jobs from January to February, it’s really not all that bad because it’s not 27% like it is in Perry County. [WKRN]
  • We knew our Preds loved us too much to screw us out of $400K. Thanks to David C. for the tip! [Tennessean]
  • But the good news is that you’ve still got time to apply for the Great Tennessee Elk Hunt of 2009 since that’s about all that’s left to do with all that unemployed free time. [WZTV]
  • If you get a dumb text message forward telling you that the gangs are gonna get you if you go anywhere near Walmart, Metro Police are telling you to ignore it. Duh. [WSMV]
  • The ‘Noog lost its largest sand tiger shark in the Tennessee State Aquarium today to a nasty stomach infection. [WSMV]
  • President Obama may have swooped down and rescued an 82-year old South Nashville woman who was about to lose her home after her husband died and she tried to bail her son out after a layoff. [WKRN]
  • The Tennessee House is all about letting us carry loaded rifles and shotguns in our cars which has Rep. Brenda Gilmore (D-Nashville) fears that “we are changing Nashville and Tennessee into the Wild, Wild West.” Great mental picture, right? [WKRN]

Does that mean we get a discount at the Tenn Aquarium this weekend?
  • The article on the "loaded" guns explains that if you carry ammo anywhere near the gun it's technically loaded, so instead of fixing a stupid law they're creating another stupid one. That's how bureaucracy works!

Brenda Gilmore's quote seems quite silly, though, since she didn't address this discrepancy and instead took the opportunity to do a little good ol' fashioned gun-bashing.
  • No kidding. Gilmore's quote just cracked me up. Suddenly I'm envisioning a pack of horses at rush hour on I-40 slinging some revolvers. Obviously the issue is more complex, but it definitely provides some laughs.
  • In typical media fashion, the retraction was much smaller than the original incorrect story.

The Preds do not owe the city $400k. That was announced earlier this afternoon.

Thanks for using my pic BTW :-)
  • Yep, that's the same story I linked in the post.

    And you're welcome!
  • I can't read. I thought you were saying "We thought they loved us...they are screwing us out of $400k..."
    You're on it. :-)
  • No worries! We all know I miss my share of details. ;) Thanks for keeping me honest.
