Bright & Early: Drip, Drip, Drip Edition

Good morning, Nashville. Ready for another utility bill hike? The Metro Council signed off on a rate increase for our water & sewer service, leaving us looking at a 7.8% rate hike every month, starting in May. Now this won’t pack a huge punch on our $9.64 monthly bill, but according to WKRN, the average customer can expect to see about a $3.76 increase on their bill. But wait! WTVF tells us that it’s a $6.76 increase! Looks like they automatically factored in the $3 monthly stormwater fee that also passed (but doesn’t start until July). Time to fix those leaky faucets!

  • Being the Volunteer State and all, it’s always good news to hear that more folks are stepping up to the plate to, well, volunteer. And it seems that all it took was a few million people being unemployed and bored!
  • We really thought that all the school rezoning/resegregation controversy was over a year ago, but apparently it’s just getting started. With the plan expected to take effect next school year, the NAACP is stepping up their game by meeting with school board officials and trying to help affected families understand what’s going on.
  • Bits & pieces. We can always appreciate a creative protest … A new piece of legislation tries to ban a few obvious gang activities … A Valentine card that had been lost in The Great USPS Abyss for 11 years was finally delivered to a Johnson City woman … TSU is optimistic about their future at Bells Bend.

this seriously bothers me. I live in an apartment complex with a "shared" watter bill (I like to call it communist) they divide it by occupants in the apartment my wife and I consistently have $50 water bills
  • "Flashing a gang sign might soon draw jail time"
"making identifying gestures and associating publicly with members, in areas that are dominated by gangs."

Seriously? How do they think that restricting freedom of expression and public assembly would pass constitutional muster?
  • I know, right? And moreover, how do they think that would really do anything to curb gang violence?
  • Boo water increase.
