Happy Hour: They See Us Rollin’, They Hatin’
- Because our site was broken for the better part of today, we couldn’t post things like the above photo which was taken by our new hero brandonvalentine in the Belmont neighborhood. That said, we’re realizing that we’ve finally outgrown our hosting (hooray!) and we’ll be upgrading tonight so we can be back in full force tomorrow… we hope.
- A new bill went through a Senate committee today that would allow us to buy not one, not two, but FIVE cases of wine every single day from some other state and cart it back over the border, which is currently illegal. Though it seems like an awfully large missed revenue opportunity (*cough cough*), we do love our wine. Time to make some friends in Kentucky, just maybe not this guy? [Tennessean]
- Looks like Bible Park USA is officially a no-go for Lebanon and Wilson County. As a parting gift, the developers issued a cute press release which someone should probably submit to PassiveAggressiveNotes right now. For our part, our hearts are beaming with pride for our Wilson County neighbors. [Nashville Is Talking]
- We’re not sure about you, but somehow our lunch hours in the sun today didn’t quite cut it like an actual Spring Break would. [Tennessean]

Bright & Early: All Sunshine And Rainbows Edition
Good morning, Nashville. When it comes to the TVA spewing their toxic ash everywhere, the federal Environmental Protection Agency says that help is on the way. Thanks to that coal ash disaster back in December, the EPA has decided to check out more than 300 ash pounds all across the country to make sure they won’t be “pulling a Kingston.” Though the folks at the TVA are in the process of stepping up their own regulation (ha, ha) the feds believe it’s time for some federal oversight to make sure that all of the country’s coal plants are doing it right. And in case you missed it last week, “problems were identified” at a fourth TVA ash pond in New Johnsonville.
- It’s the start of something new. Some potentially exciting changes are in store for Nashville’s bus system (did we really just say that?) that could include new buses, better shelters, and real-time schedule updates. If all goes as planned, Nashville could be getting $14M in stimulus money for mass transit and Murfreesboro could be looking at $2.1 to spruce up their ROVER bus system. May our buses always live up to their jingle.
- New czar! And speaking of stimulus things, Governor Phil has named former assistant to the Comptroller Charles L. Harrison as the fancy new Stimulus Czar of Tennessee, which sort of sounds like he should be carrying around a bejeweled staff and hoarding gold bricks.
- Bits & pieces. The $8,000 painting accidentally donated to Goodwill has finally sold for real for $7,500 … Families in Nashville have opinions about the stem cell debate … Way to go to the TNGOP for getting their super-clever HONK IF YOU’RE PAYING MY MORTGAGE bumper sticker onto The View … As WKRN says, “Hot Then Storms Then Cold.” Booo cold … Tennessean woman protests bacon, comment storm ensues.
