Happy Hour: Probably Worth Celebrating
- Yay for us! Nashville’s crime rate was down for the 5th year straight and is actually at its lowest point in 18 years. Guess we’re doing something right! [WKRN]
- The latest estimate says we’ll be getting $4.28B from the economic stimulus package, which includes that $600M for highway projects that we talked about a few weeks ago–in addition to $1.6B for TennCare and $1.2B for education (yes please!) [WKRN]
- Coach Lane Kiffin over at University of Tennessee has been called out a third time for violating the NCAA’s policies about recruits. No fog machines were involved this time, though. :( [Tennessean]
- So Kroger has a marketplace that sells furniture and bed & bath items? Who knew! The first Kroger Marketplace in Middle Tennessee opened in Thompson Station near Spring Hill on Wednesday morning. [WKRN]
- Rep. Marsha Blackburn is off the hook for the campaign finance charges that the FEC tried to bring against her. Between that and her fake foreclosure, she’s had a rough time of it this year! [Tennessean]

Gettin’ Hitched In Paradise Tomorrow

Paradise Park, that wonderfully-tacky can’t-miss-it place downtown (you know, the one with the biggest and brightest neon sign) is prepared to take one for the team and make this Valentine’s Day one to remember – They’re offering free marriages at Paradise Park tomorrow only. One of the business owners, Mark Goldberg, was ordained specifically for this purpose. Can you believe the generosity?!
Included in the package is a free sweet tea and an order of tater tots for you and your sweetie to share on your special day. You will also have the opportunity to choose one of two specially designed backdrops, either a beach scene or Las Vegas, in which to immortalize your newlywed bliss in your distinctive wedding photos. Weddings will be officiated on the stage at Paradise Park.
Last Valentine’s Day, 16 couples showed up at Paradise Park and got hitched (or re-hitched) beheath the blinding glow of Broadway. So if you’ve got the wedding planning blues, well, you know where to go. But you might want to get there early… Marriage ceremonies will only be performed between 6pm-10pm. We might just have to head down there to see this for ourselves. Thanks to Heather Byrd for the tip!
