Bright & Early: Some Cheese With That Whine Edition
Good morning, Nashville. Things are looking good for the the wine-in-grocery-store bills that are currently making their way through the TN legislature. Representatives of the Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission have said that they could definitely handle the oversight and financial burden of adding anywhere from 1,000 to 6,000 new licensed stores, which would force them to add a new supervisor for every 100 stores that decide to sell wine. We say, bring it on! To find out how you can help bring wine to Nashville’s grocery stores, check out Red White and Food.
- Weather advisory. There’s some seriously nasty weather headed our way this morning. With sustained winds of as much as 25 mph and higher gusts, this line of storms has left a pretty big dent in the Midwest before reaching us. Look for the biggest squall line around noon today.
- Doobie doobie doo. If you’ve ever wondered what a ton of marijuana looks like (like a ton ton, as in 2,000 pounds), then look no further than the Davidson County drug court. The pot, valued at over $2 million, was carted into the courtroom yesterday as evidence against a man who allegedly had it shipped in from Texas and taken to a warehouse off of Factory Lane near Trevecca.
- Almost famous. Thanks again to Christian Grantham over at Nashville Is Talking for inviting us onto the Morning Browser to discuss all things Twestival and Nashvillest. In case you missed the interview, you can still see it on Ustream.
- Bits & pieces. The crappy economy has claimed Goldie’s Deli in Sylvan Park. We’ll miss it! … The Fire Chief is cracking down on night clubs without working fire sprinkler systems … Kenny Chesney really, really wants you to know that he is really, really not gay … Wednesday morning shocker: The Academy of Country Music announced their award nominations this morning and Brad Paisley leads the pack with six.
