Bright & Early: Merrily We Row Along Edition
Good morning, Nashville. One east Tennessee high school is pulling out all the stops to get kids to school on time. Every month, they dole out a $300 prize to a student who hasn’t been late that month for the student to split with his or her parents. And what is the first lucky winner doing with his cash? Buying a Nintendo DS? Taking a day trip to Dollywood? Putting it in the college fund? No, he’s taking all his friends to Red Lobster. If you ask us, he should’ve gone for Captain D’s.

- Inmate execution. Last night, the State of Tennessee executed convicted murderer Steve Henley, who used some of his final words to maintain his innocence. Henley tried to challenge lethal injection earlier this week, filed for an appeal through the US Supreme Court, and requested clemency from Governor Bredesen this week, but all were denied.
- Bits & pieces. The Tennessean lists all of the recalled peanut products that have been distributed in Tennessee, and where. Check your kitchens! … A group in Nashville is buying up land to preserve the largest old-growth forest in an urban area in the country … Metro Council passed a compromised version of the noise ordinance at last night’s meeting … Sheriff Daron Hall wrote a letter apologizing to the Metro Council for accidentally speaking in front of hate group Council of Conservative Citizens.
