Good morning, Nashville. Times are tough for the folks working (or who used to work?) at the DPL Corporation, a packaging and shipping company up in Clarksville. After allegedly skipping out on paying some employees for over a month, the company started doling out pink slips instead of paychecks when workers came to pick them up yesterday. Unfortunately, this seems to be a pattern all over Tennessee.
- Snow is headed back into Kentucky today, much to the dismay of all of the Kentuckians who are still trying to dig their way out of the destruction caused by last week’s ice storm. Many of them have fled over the border to shelters as far down as Knoxville. Please consider tossing some change at the Red Cross while they continue the relief effort.
- Unfortunate. Sounding suspiciously like the Great Election Commission Laptop Theft from a few years ago, a Metro employee has “accidentally misplaced” a thumbdrive with all sorts of vital information about juvenile crime victims in Davidson County. The little bugger sprouted some legs and walked away on December 19th but wasn’t reported until the middle of January.
- Bits & pieces. Tennessee executed its first criminal since 2007 at 1 o’clock this morning after a rapid-fire court battle by activists to have the execution stayed … If you wanted a job at the new Logan’s, you may have some stiff competition … The Tennessee legislature is having a tough time getting out of its rut.
***Correction: Says commenter Sarah, “Steve Henley is scheduled to be executed at 1 AM tomorrow morning – he has not been executed yet. If anyone wants to call the governor to ask for clemency for him, the number is 741-2001.”
