Bright & Early: Slip ‘N’ Slide Edition
Good morning, Nashville. We hope you made it out of the driveway without slipping and sliding this morning, though we have to say we didn’t see much of anything that would have warranted emergency management at the Nashvillest HQ. But judging by the looks of the school closings scrolling across the screen, we’re guessing that the northwestern part of the midstate took the brunt of it. Still, the freezing rain advisory has been extended through noon for most counties, so be careful behind the wheel as you make your way around town today. And be sure to pack a flashlight or something. ;)
- Band kids and budget cuts. While we were sitting around waiting for the sky to fall yesterday, Metro Schools continued to take a pretty big hit budget-wise with $3M in new cuts prompting the sacrifice of things like… new band uniforms? Another $4M is expected to be sliced in January, but none of this really covers the projected $12M deficit.
- Cha-ching. Best we can tell from the preview of this Nashville Post article since we don’t feel like it’s worth buying one article for $7.50 (not bitter!), Bible Park USA didn’t quite get the support it needs to set up camp in Wilson County. Once they’re driven out of every county in Middle Tennessee, we’re holding out hope that maybe they’ll find a new state to pick on.
- Bits & pieces. Albert “Speedy” Haynesworth is out for the rest of the regular season due to an injury but should be back for the playoffs … The Shriners, best known for driving the little cars around in the Christmas parade and parading elephants down 4th Ave. in the middle of the day, put together a sweet Christmas party for folks in the hospital … Another one drops off the Karl Dean train … A new corporation is relocating to Clarksville and bringing 900 new jobs with it.
