Happy Hour: Take One For The Team
- The governor of Kentucky volunteered to have 10% of his own salary slashed to help out the state’s budget during the economic slump. So… how ’bout it, Governor Phil? [WTVF]
- The University of Tennessee’s Pride of the Southland marching band is inauguration-bound after being invited to march in the inauguration parade in January. This will be the 11th such trip for group, which has apparently been around since just after the Civil War. [WSMV]
- Speaking of UT, they’ve found a new job for former coach Phillip Fulmer–special assistant TO THE President. [WTVF]
- George Jones became an official Kennedy Center honoree at a ceremony in Washington, DC this weekend. [Tennessean]
- Vandy folks aren’t the only ones who feel cheated by the Music City Bowl. Downtown businesses are none to pleased, too. [WKRN]

Nashville’s Hottest Bachelor Off The Market [John Rich]
We always hate being the bearers of bad news–and we know that this one is really going to tear you guys up–but People magazine is reporting that John Rich got hitched over the weekend:
The morning wedding between Rich, 34, one half of the duo Big & Rich and host of CMT’s Gone Country, and [Joan] Bush, a former model who runs a Houston modeling agency, was attended by about two dozen family members.
Rich and Bush have been dating for more than five years, but have kept their relationship under the radar, not appearing together at official events or on red carpets, says a source familiar with the couple.
But wait, who are we kidding? We’re just thrilled that someone’s willing to take him off our hands.

Bright & Early: Something To Brag About Edition
Good morning, Nashville. What better way to start the week than to brag about our Titans a little bit? Over the weekend, the guys defeated the Cleveland Browns 28-9 to claim the AFC South title and become the first team in the NFL to clinch the division championship this season. We can’t be sure, but we suspect that at this very moment Jeff Fisher is finally cracking a smile beneath that endearing mustache of his. So this is your cue to clothe yourselves in powder blue and break out the Fisher-flavored ice cream because we’re going to the playoffs!
- Good news all around this morning. Andi Varagona, one of the two Nashville women injured in the Mumbai terrorist attacks, came home this weekend. The other woman, Linda Ragsdale, is still in India but is reportedly doing well.
- Overtime. The Metro School Board is working overtime to find a new director for the school system so that (God forbid) Mayor Dean doesn’t have to take over. They interviewed their third and last candidate over the weekend.
- Bits & pieces. A Tennessee farmer thinks the EPA’s new idea to charge people for their cows’ gas is a bad idea … A dog that went missing in Tennessee turned up 700 miles away in Arkansas … Vandy gets to play a boring bowl game in their own city … Two of the Blackwater security guards being charged in a massacre of Iraqi civilians hail from Knoxville.
