Bright & Early: House Hunters Edition
Good morning, Nashville. City officials have been working on finding housing for the folks in Tent City after repeatedly pushing back the deadline for shutting it down. They’ve put 10 of them up in a hotel on Murfreesboro Road while they try to work out public housing, but several more are still waiting. We’re surprised no one has handed them a one-way ticket out of town yet, given the city’s track record. The Homelessness Commission and Urban Housing Solutions have been getting in on the effort.
- Equality riders arrested. Three Soulforce Q Equality Riders were arrested at Union University yesterday while on campus to talk to students about gay and transgender equality. The school instructed the group to stay to the edge of campus and then had them arrested when they started heading towards the main campus. Nashville native and outed Christian TV show host Azariah Southworth was with the group but wasn’t arrested.
- MTA wants you. Unhappy with the public transportation situation around here? MTA wants to hear what you have to say (though we can’t promise they’ll actually do anything about it). The five public meetings will be held around town next week.
- Bits & pieces. A man was shot and injured on 2nd Ave. last night … If you know any military folks who are dying to go to the zoo today, they get in free … Rescued pit bulls from a Kentucky dog fighting operation are resting up in Dickson … A Franklin soldier was killed by a roadside bomb in Iraq over the weekend.
