Good morning, Nashville. In keeping with the theme this morning, a Tennessee man ducked behind his wife’s back and named their kid Sarah McCain Palin. The little girl, presumably born this week in Kingsport, was supposed to be named Ava Grace–at least that was the name that he and his wife had agreed upon before he blurted out the new moniker to put on the birth certificate. Dude says that his wife still thinks he’s joking, but he wants us to know that he’s very, very serious. While he can’t afford to give to the campaign right now, he says this is the least he can do.
- Teacher of the year. We had to smile this morning when we heard this story about a Nashville teacher giving up his kidney to a 14-year old student. The student was born with a disease that weakened his kidneys, and the teacher came to the rescue after he found out that he was a good match. Now the boy is healthy and energetic, and says of his teacher, “Right now, he’s like the closest friend you could every have.” Awwww.
- Every firefighter’s nightmare. Fireworks exploded in every direction when a Murfreesboro fireworks store caught fire yesterday afternoon. Though firefighters had a rough time putting out the blaze due to the Roman candles and bottle rockets flying everywhere, they managed to get it under control before anyone got hurt.
- Bits & pieces. Political signs being swiped out of people’s yards “as fast as they can put them up” … Dead body found in Old Hickory along Swinging Bridge Road yesterday afternoon … With gas prices falling below $3 in some parts of Nashville, WSMV wants to know the inside scoop … You won’t be getting any help from Metro with that storm water anytime soon.
