Bright & Early: Sign Of The Times Edition

Good morning, Nashville. Like the rest of the country, we’ve been hit hard by home foreclosures in the past few months as a result of the tanking economy. With over 3,000 foreclosed houses in the Metro Nashville area, we’ve started to notice that some of them are rotting, overgrown, and downright nasty. But the good news is, the federal government is kicking in $4 million to help us clean ‘em up a bit while they work on the latest bailout plan. We’re not really getting our hopes up.

  • Round 1, Fight! If you’re sick of Comcast, we might have some good news for you–AT&T is finally pulling into Nashville and trying to give Comcast a run for their money. To be honest, we’re not sure this is really anything to be excited about, but we’re all about chipping away at the monopoly.
  • Burglar caught. Metro police caught a jewelry thief red-handed when they found him chilling downtown with a garbage bag containing about $400 worth of stolen goods. We tend to think that if your trash bag of stolen jewelry only adds up to $400, then you’re doin’ it wrong. But hey, at least this clown is off the streets.
  • Bits & pieces. I-24 shut down for 9 hours on Saturday after an ethanol tanker crashes … The Smyrna Nissan plant is cutting production since, well, no one is buying cars … The mid-state rejoices to see gas fall below $4 … Everyone seems to be feeling the economic woes except the Pied Piper.
