Good morning, Nashville. Members of one north Nashville community are all up in arms about affordable housing, but probably not in the way that you’d think. After Habitat for Humanity proposed a plan to build an affordable neighborhood behind the existing one, residents loudly protested, saying that the Habitat project would bring crime and drive down their property values. Habitat disagrees, but they’ll be hashing out the details at a community meeting tonight.
- Apartment blaze. A fire ripped through the Brentwood Downs apartment complex yesterday and left 18 units charred and several more damaged. Thanks to a heroic neighbor who woke up several of the residents, no one was badly hurt. Our hearts especially go out to a couple of our readers and friends who were affected, but we’re glad you guys are okay.
- Bittersweet. The Titans mowed right over Jacksonville in yesterday’s season opener, taking them down 17-10. Unfortunately, Vince Young left the game with a sprained knee late in the 4th quarter and no one knows yet how long he’ll be out. They should be taking a look at the injury today, so hopefully we’ll know more.
- Monday morning bonus. Why we love Georgia: Georgia town pays $1M for strip club, then sets it on fire.
- Bits & pieces. Country wanna-be Jessica Simpson was off wooing the crowds at her Grand Ole Opry debut this weekend. Or at least trying to … Hey, did you know that Belmont’s hosting a presidential debate? … The state has issued a final warning to Metro Schools about the use of federal money, threatening to freeze it if they can’t spend it right … TSU alumni came to the rescue of about 900 students who were about to be kicked out for not paying their tuition.
