Good morning, Nashville. Changes are in store for the Davidson County Sheriff’s Department after some deputies kept an undocumented immigrant woman in handcuffs while she went into labor and delivered her baby earlier this summer. Known for his tough stance on illegal immigration, Sheriff Daron Hall says they were just trying to do their job but admits they may have gone a little overboard. In the future, he says, pregnant inmates will only be cuffed if they’re dangerous to themselves or others.
- Bus changes. MTA’s public hearings about the new downtown bus station and major route changes will be happening today and tomorrow at the Downtown and Looby libraries. With more of you guys riding the buses these days, it’s probably worth checking into.
- Williamson Co. scam alert. If you get a prize check from Williamson County Schools for $3,000, it’s not for real. Because let’s be honest–they probably don’t have $3,000 to give you. The checks are part of a scam involving a fake group called the Golden Clearing House Sweepstakes.
- Bits & pieces. Downtown voter precincts will be shuffled around this November with a new one opening at the Downtown library branch … Councilman Crafton is taking the Davidson Co. Election Commission to court over blocking his ballot measure … TDOT won’t be building a toll road between Nashville and Hendersonville after all … More mosquitoes test positive for West Nile in Antioch.
