Good morning, Nashville. It’s a wet one out there today and we couldn’t be happier. It looks like we could get as much as 3 inches of rain over the next couple of days from the rogue tropical storm Fay plowing through the southeast. Also, we want to give a very special shout-out to all the college kids who are back in town this week, and especially to everyone moving out here for the first time. Welcome back, guys! Though we mourn the loss of our Belmont and Vandy-area bars and coffeeshops, we love you anyway.
- Back to school. The kids in Cumberland County are finally starting school today. After two weeks of wavering on budget problems, a judge ordered the kids back into the classroom despite the fact that no one has come up with any answers yet. At this point they could still run out of money for schools later in the school year, but hopefully they’ll figure something out by then.
- Nashville is the new LA? Here’s one we haven’t heard: One developer is proposing that we turn the dilapidated state fairgrounds into a Universal Studios-ish media village. There wouldn’t be any rides or theme park elements, but the developers are hoping that bringing a piece of LA to our city would bring a much-needed boost to Nashville’s film industry. We say we’ve already got Hannah Montana. What more could we need?
- Bits & pieces. Color us shocked–the Sounds won … Hey everybody, stop throwing trash in Percy Priest. It’s getting gross … The Farmer’s Almanac is calling for a colder-than-usual winter, but not for us … The wildfire in Cocke County has grown to a whopping 1,500 acres.
