  • We would be remiss if we didn’t mention this, but the Metro Planning Commission will be meeting tonight to talk about the controversial May Town Center development that aims to be a “second downtown” in the middle of rural Davidson County. They’re expecting a pretty packed house for the meeting, which starts around 6pm at the Metro Southeast Building. [Tennessean]
  • Laura Bush will be in town Monday for the 5th Annual Reading First Conference at the Opryland Hotel. [WSMV]
  • After two kids, ages 9 mos. and 4 years, were killed in separate house fires in the past couple of weeks, the Nashville Fire Department is giving away 1,500 smoke detectors to anyone who wants one. Both fires took place in homes without working detectors. [Tennessean]
  • We won’t pretend we aren’t excited about Tax Free Weekend on August 1-3, but Gov. Bredesen is saying that our savings are costing state employees their jobs. Feeling guilty yet? [WSMV]
  • Bible Park developers will be trying to convince Wilson County officials that the park is a good idea when they pitch their plans tomorrow. If you’re in the neighborhood and feel like picketing or something, it’s happening at 11:30am tomorrow at Lebanon City Hall. [Tennessean]

Feel bad about tax free weekend? No way, that's the way it should be.
