Good morning, Nashville. The folks in Manchester, TN are all geared up for the huge and amazing Bonnaroo Festival that kicks off tomorrow. We’re sad that we don’t get to be there, but for everyone who will be, Nashvillest hopes you have the time of your life. Keep us posted on Twitter or in the comments so we can live vicariously, and stay safe out there!
- Tuition hikes. The Tennessee Board of Regents is recommending tuition hikes anywhere from 5% to 13% for all of their campuses. The TBR–which oversees a sizable network of campuses including MTSU, ETSU, and Austin Peay–blames the state’s budget crunch for the revenue shortage and says the increase is necessary to keep them up and running. We get it, but we’re sure glad it’s not us.
- DCS on thin ice. The TN Department of Children’s Services, facing the ever-growing issues of federal funding cuts and understaffing, met with state lawmakers to convince them that they’re following the guidelines of a messy class-action suit filed against the department in May 2000. Sen. Harper isn’t buying it.
- Bits & pieces. Gold Section tickets for CMApocalypse 2009 sold out in a record-breaking 15 minutes … Southern Baptist Convention says no to central sex offender database … Federal judge may find a trustee to clean up Boots’ mess … Expect yet another increase in your electric bill next month.
