Good morning, Nashville. CMA kicked off its festivities with a rousing bowling tournament yesterday at a bowling alley in Hermitage. The ladies and gents of Lady Antebellum and Lonestar were really strutting their stuff in the first official event of the festival, which doubled as a fundraiser for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis. Fans who’d rolled into town early were able to grab photos with the bands and have their CDs/posters/shirts/foreheads autographed before the other 199,900 fans get here, which will probably start happening today. We hate to admit it, but we’re kind of excited. We secretly do love sharing our city, because let’s face it–we have a lot to be proud of.
- Women’s NCAA coming to Nashville? Speaking of things to be proud of, our very own Sommet Center may be one of the hosts for the final-four women’s NCAA tournaments if our bid is approved. We were one of 12 cities to put in for it, and if we get it, we’ll be hosting it any time between 2012 and 2016. We had no idea they planned that far ahead, but we’re still pretty pumped!
- More mixed reviews. The lists just keep coming. Vanderbilt’s Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital has been named one of the best children’s hospitals in the country.
- Bits & pieces. Elvis backup singer Hugh Jarrett and rock ‘n’ roll founding father Bo Diddly have both pass away … Sounds end their losing streak with a 5-2 win over Iowa … More trouble on the horizon for Pacman … Metro Assistance Committee running short on cash … West Trinity Lane Ponderosa shut down for health violations.
